TokCloner vs Canva for TikTok slideshows and carousels

By TokCloner team · Updated

Short answer

Canva is the better choice if you want a free, fully manual tool: pick a TikTok or carousel template, edit every slide yourself and export PNG, JPG, PDF or video. The free plan covers most of it, and Pro is US$144 a year. TokCloner is for rebuilding a specific viral slideshow or carousel for your business automatically, as 1080×1920 PNGs in 1–3 minutes, from $29/month.

Bottom line

Canva wins on price and control: the free plan handles most slideshow and carousel work, Pro is US$144 a year, and you can design any size, add video and schedule to several networks. TokCloner wins when you want a post that already worked rebuilt for your business, with the copy and images done for you in a few minutes. You can also use both.

Pick Canva if

  • You want a free tool and are happy to design each slide yourself.
  • You need sizes other than 9:16, such as 4:5 or square Instagram carousels.
  • You want video, music or animation in the same editor.
  • You want to start from a template rather than from a specific post.
  • You want to schedule single-image posts to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Pinterest.

Pick TokCloner if

  • You want a proven slideshow rebuilt for your business in minutes instead of designing every slide.
  • You don't want to write the copy; TokCloner rewrites every slide from your business profile.
  • You want new images for each slide without searching stock libraries.
  • You make TikTok photo-mode slideshows and want 1080×1920 output every time.

Canva and TokCloner both get you to a finished TikTok slideshow or Instagram carousel, but the work is split differently. In Canva you pick a template and design every slide yourself, mostly for free. In TokCloner you paste a link to a post that already worked, and it rebuilds the structure with your business’s words and images in a few minutes.

What is Canva?

Canva is a general design tool for social posts, presentations, video, print and more. For slideshows and carousels it gives you templates, a large stock library, AI tools and exports in PNG, JPG, PDF and video.

The free plan is generous: the editor, custom dimensions, 1.6M+ templates, 4.7M+ stock assets, 5GB of storage and up to 20 AI uses a month. Pro adds premium templates and assets, background removal, design in bulk, 5 Brand Kits and social scheduling.

What is TokCloner?

TokCloner takes a link to a TikTok photo slideshow or Instagram carousel and rebuilds it for your business: same structure and hook pattern, new text and new images. It reads each slide, works out the story, rewrites it from your business profile, and makes new backgrounds or uses your photos.

The output is 1080×1920 PNG slides. It does not design from scratch, schedule or post.

  1. Start a design. Search Canva’s templates for “TikTok slideshow” or “Instagram carousel”, or create a custom size such as 1080 × 1920 px for TikTok photo mode.
  2. Add one page per slide. Keep each slide to one idea; the first page is your hook.
  3. Write and style the text. Type your copy or draft it with Canva’s AI writing tools.
  4. Add images. Use stock, your uploads or AI image tools. Background removal is a Pro feature.
  5. Download the pages as PNG or JPG. For TikTok photo mode or an Instagram carousel, you upload the images together as one post.
  6. Post or schedule. Pro can schedule to Facebook Pages, Instagram Business, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr. Canva’s help says Instagram scheduling takes single images or videos, not galleries, and TikTok is not on the list. You post slideshows and carousels yourself.

A note on the word “slideshow”: in Canva it often means a presentation or a photo video. For TikTok photo mode you want separate image slides, not an MP4. Our TikTok slideshow guide covers the difference.

How TokCloner works

  1. Paste a link to a public TikTok photo slideshow or Instagram carousel.
  2. TokCloner extracts the slides and reads each one’s text and styling.
  3. It maps the story: hook, supporting slides, payoff and CTA.
  4. It rewrites the copy for your business profile and your instructions.
  5. It makes a new background per slide from the image model you choose, or uses your own photos from the media library at 0 credits.
  6. It composites the slides into 1080×1920 PNGs in about 1–3 minutes. You can edit text, font, color, stroke, shadow and position, or regenerate a single slide, then download.

For a local bakery, a carousel titled “Tier list of every coffee order” might come back as “Tier list of every pastry we bake,” with the same ranking rhythm and photos of your own counter. Credit the creator who inspired you, and never repost their images or words as your own.

Templates vs a proven post

A Canva template gives you a layout: fonts, colors and where the text sits. It does not tell you what to put on slide one, or how many slides to spend before the payoff. That part often decides whether people keep swiping.

A cloned post starts from the story. TokCloner keeps the hook pattern and slide order of a post that already earned attention, then fills it with your business’s words. If you would rather write it yourself in Canva, borrow the structure: our hooks library and slideshow formats break patterns like the mistakes listicle down slide by slide.

Canva Pro’s yearly price moved twice in 2026. A pricing tracker logged Pro rising from US$144 to US$180 a year in July 2026, then returning to US$144 in September, when the free AI allowance also dropped to 20 uses. Older articles may show other numbers.

On money alone, Canva is far cheaper. What you pay for with TokCloner is the time Canva leaves to you: writing the copy, finding images and laying out each slide. A clone costs 3 credits plus 1–21+ per generated background, and your own photos are free.

Output and limits

Canva exports PNG, JPG and PDF on every plan, plus video, at any custom size. It handles 4:5 and square Instagram carousels, which TokCloner cannot. Its limits are your time and, for AI features, the monthly allowance: up to 20 uses on Free, and on Pro up to 200 Premium or 20 Ultra uses, with Standard AI tools under fair use.

TokCloner exports 1080×1920 (9:16) PNGs only. It accepts image posts only, so video links and Reels are rejected. There is no scheduler, no analytics and no team seats.

Frequently asked questions
