For Shopify stores, TikTok Shop sellers and small DTC brands that want product slideshows and carousels that sell, without filming videos for every product.
TikTok Shop slideshows and product carousels for ecommerce
By TokCloner team · Updated
Short answer
A TikTok Shop slideshow is a photo post with product links attached, which TikTok calls a Shoppable Carousel. As of October 2026 it is in beta for select US sellers, and TikTok recommends 9:16 images, at least 2 photos and ideally 5 to 7. Without access, you can still post the slideshow organically, run it as a carousel ad, or tag products in an Instagram carousel.
The workflow
- 1
Gather real product photos
Upload product shots to a media library folder, such as @product-photos. TikTok Shop requires the product in your post to match the listing, so product slides should use real photos.
- 2
Save slideshows that sell in your category
Look for photo posts with lots of comments and saves: tutorials, roundups, outfit ideas, gift guides. Save them as templates in a collection.
- 3
Clone with your product on the key slides
Paste the link into TokCloner. Use your library photos for product slides and generated backgrounds only for hook or scene slides.
- 4
Post as a Shoppable Carousel or a photo post
Upload the slides in order, tap Products to tag items if you have access, add music, and turn on the AI-generated content setting if any slide shows realistic AI imagery.
- 5
Turn winners into ads
Run proven slideshows as TikTok carousel ads (2 to 35 images, music required) or boost Shoppable Carousels through GMV Max and Creative Boost.
- 6
Measure clicks and orders per post
In Seller Center, go to Analytics, Channel Analytics, Photo and Video, then Photo details. Clone more variants of the posts that sell.
A TikTok Shop slideshow is a photo post with product links attached. TikTok calls it a Shoppable Carousel: shoppers swipe the photos, tap a product link and check out without leaving the feed. As of October 2026 it is a beta for select US sellers, so check your TikTok app before you plan around it.
Without access, the same slides still work. Post them as an organic photo post, run them as a carousel ad, or tag products in an Instagram carousel.
What a TikTok Shop slideshow is
TikTok Shop Academy describes a Shoppable Carousel as “a swipeable photo post that shoppers can buy from directly.” They can appear in the For You feed, Explore and Search. TikTok’s own guidance covers the basics:
| Spec | TikTok’s guidance (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Photos | At least 2; “a set of 5 to 7 clear, consistent photos” works better |
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 |
| Product in frame | “Roughly 40 to 60 percent of the frame” |
| Music | Optional but recommended |
| Product links | Tap Products more than once to add several links to one post |
| Creators | “Some creators have access”; commission defaults to 60% of the video rate |
To post one in the app, start a new post and add photos in the order shoppers should see them. Tap Products to tag items, then add a description and music. Sellers can also post from Seller Center under Content Hub, then Post on TikTok, then Photo Post.
One rule trips sellers up. TikTok Shop’s video quality rules say content that relies mainly on still images, including slideshows, is not permitted when promoting products in videos. Native photo posts are a separate format. So post your slides as a photo post, not as a still-image video with a product link.
TikTok’s rules for product slideshows and AI images
TikTok Shop’s policies decide whether your post keeps its product links. The ones that matter most for slideshows:
- The product must match the listing. AI may not change its size, color, material or shape. No fake 3D or unrealistic animation of a static product.
- AI backgrounds are allowed “as long as product information is not altered.” Disclose content that is fully or significantly AI-made with the AI-generated content setting.
- Before-and-after slides “must not compress time or imply instant results” without reliable evidence.
- No redirects. Links, handles or QR codes that send shoppers away from TikTok Shop can get content removed.
- Avoid overloading photos with text or stickers, repeating the same image across posts, copyrighted images and unlicensed music.
The practical rule for TokCloner users: real product photos on product slides, AI backgrounds only on hook or scene slides. Library images cost 0 credits, so this is also the cheapest setup.
TikTok slideshow ads: carousel ad specs
Paid TikTok slideshows are carousel ads. The specs from TikTok’s ads help center, last updated September 2026:
| Spec | Standard carousel ad |
|---|---|
| Images | 2 to 35 |
| File types | JPG, JPEG or PNG |
| Suggested file size | 100 KB or less |
| Vertical size listed | 720×1280 (9:16) |
| Music | Required, at least 2 seconds, loops |
| Copy | One caption, one CTA and one URL for all images |
| Spark Ads | Supported for standard carousels |
TokCloner’s 1080×1920 PNGs share the 9:16 ratio. They are larger than the suggested file size, so you may want to compress them or save them as JPG first. Shoppable Carousels you have already posted flow into GMV Max, and Creative Boost can push a specific one.
TikTok’s creative best practices for ads apply here too: a hook, your selling points, a clear CTA, and 3 to 5 creatives per ad group. A winning organic slideshow is your best candidate for an ad.
Shopify sellers: connecting your store
The TikTok app for Shopify is free to install and published by TikTok. It syncs your catalog to TikTok Shop, adds the TikTok Pixel and lets you manage TikTok Shop orders and inventory in your Shopify admin. Shopify’s help center notes that TikTok Shop is “operated and supported directly by TikTok.”
On Instagram, Meta’s help center still documents product tags for eligible shops: up to 20 tags on a photo post and 20 tags in total across a carousel. TokCloner slides are 9:16, which Instagram’s feed crops to 3:4. The Instagram carousel maker page explains how to keep text inside the crop.
Three example product slideshows
We wrote these to show the structure. Each marks which slides use your real photos.
Candle shop: care tutorial (6 slides)
- “Why your candle tunnels, and the fix” (scene background)
- “The first burn sets the memory. Let the wax melt to the edges.” (scene)
- “Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before every light.” (scene)
- “Keep it away from drafts so it burns evenly.” (scene)
- “Every one of our soy candles ships with a first-burn card.” (your product photo)
- “Tap the product link to shop the scent from slide 5.” (your product photo)
Teaching first earns the product slide. Slide 5’s claim comes from your product info, so make sure it is true.
Apparel brand: one item, five outfits (7 slides)
- “1 linen shirt, 5 summer outfits” (your photo)
- “Tucked into wide-leg trousers for the office” (your photo)
- “Open over a tank with shorts for the beach” (your photo)
- “Knotted at the waist with a midi skirt” (your photo)
- “Sleeves rolled with jeans for dinner” (your photo)
- “Layered under a knit when it cools down” (your photo)
- “Comes in 4 colors. Tap the product link to see them all.” (your photo)
Every slide shows the real product, which is what TikTok Shop’s matching rules want. In TokCloner, mention @linen-shirt and each slide pulls a different shot from that folder.
Homeware store: gift guide (6 slides)
- “Gifts for the friend who always hosts, all under $40” (scene background)
- “A linen table runner in 6 colors” (your photo)
- “Hand-poured candles for the table” (your photo)
- “A set of 4 stoneware tumblers” (your photo)
- “A cheese board with a hidden knife drawer” (your photo)
- “Tap the product links to shop all four.” (scene)
Roundups let you tag several products in one post. For more structures, see our TikTok slideshow ideas and the before-and-after format, used carefully given TikTok’s rules.
Where TokCloner fits
TokCloner turns a slideshow that already sells in your category into one about your products in 1–3 minutes. It keeps the hook and slide order, writes copy from your business profile, and uses your product photos from the media library. Read more on the TikTok slideshow maker page.
It does not post, tag products or track sales. You upload the PNGs, tag products in TikTok and measure in Seller Center.
What to measure
| Metric | Where | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Views | TikTok analytics | Whether the first photo stops the scroll |
| Product clicks and orders per post | Seller Center: Analytics, Channel Analytics, Photo and Video, Photo details | Which slideshows actually sell |
| Saves and comments | TikTok | Interest you can turn into the next variant |
| Ad results by creative | TikTok Ads Manager | Which organic winners hold up with paid reach |
| Store traffic from TikTok | Your Shopify analytics, with UTM-tagged links | Whether organic posts without product links send buyers |
Mistakes to avoid
- Letting AI touch the product. Generated backgrounds are fine. A product that looks different from the listing is not.
- Turning slides into a still-image video for TikTok Shop. Post a photo post instead.
- Too much text. TikTok lists overloaded photos as something to avoid. Keep 1 to 3 selling points.
- Reusing the same image across posts. Shoot more angles, or rotate through a library folder.
- Pointing shoppers off TikTok. No outside links or QR codes in shoppable content.
- Copying another seller’s photos. Clone the structure, never their images or words.
Frequently asked questions
Can you add TikTok Shop product links to a slideshow?
Yes, as a Shoppable Carousel: a photo post with product links. As of October 2026, TikTok lists it as a beta for select US sellers, and some creators have access.
What size should TikTok Shop slideshow images be?
TikTok Shop recommends a 9:16 aspect ratio for Shoppable Carousels. 1080×1920 pixels is a common 9:16 size, and it is what TokCloner exports.
How many photos should a TikTok Shop slideshow have?
At least 2. TikTok's guidance says a set of 5 to 7 clear, consistent photos gives shoppers a better read than a single shot.
Can I use AI images in TikTok Shop posts?
Yes, with limits. TikTok Shop allows AI to change backgrounds if product information is not altered, but bans changing a product's size, color, material or shape, and wants significant AI content disclosed.
What are TikTok slideshow ads?
TikTok calls them carousel ads: 2 to 35 images with one caption, one CTA and required background music. Standard carousel ads can run as Spark Ads.
Do slideshows work for Shopify stores without TikTok Shop?
Yes. Post them as organic photo posts with a link in your profile, run them as carousel ads, or tag products in an Instagram carousel if your shop is eligible.
